“A man is the sum of his memories,” a wise Time Lord once said.
Alzheimer’s Research UK is a charity which funds research into finding a cure for dementia. It doesn’t receive any government funding but relies on donations from individuals.
Although Alzheimer’s and its associated conditions are traditionally thought of as affecting memory (hence the subject of the book), these diseases also affect mood, communication and ultimately all brain function. There is no cure.
As the disease progresses, people with Alzheimer’s need more support from those who care for them. Eventually, they need help with all their daily activities. This usually means expensive, full-time residential care in a home.
People with Alzheimer’s in the UK do not receive any medical financial support, i.e. their care costs are not met by the NHS or local council, as their requirements are considered to be “social”.
100% of the profits from this book will go to the charity.
